ps Zask Gallery presents
From the Ground

ps Zask Gallery presents its first show of 2010, From the Ground. The gallery’s new emphasis will be on ceramic art, sculpture and paintings that explore the senses, issues and ideas of the earth’s environment.
Six artists explore the earth – from the contemplation of quiet and simple objects – to abstractions exploring earth time and timelessness. (Including AGCC Studio Artist, Stuart Hamilton.) Paintings and ceramics are represented in a subtle show of earthen tones and organic forms.

Stuart Hamilton is concerned about the massive amount of visual stimuli we get bombarded with daily … how it leads to an “overload” and insensitivity … he sees his work as a retreat to a more contemplative place where “quiet”, simple objects from the immediate natural world can be used in an almost meditative way. The objects he uses are also somewhat “site specific” from both the local environments as well as England … and they frequently are part of his own personal history.
