Critical Mass Performance Group

Angels Gate Cultural Center, in association with Critical Mass Performance Group presents seven short works by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Suzan-Lori Parks.

On November 13, 2002, Suzan-Lori Parks got an idea to write a play a day for a year. She began that very day, finishing one year later. The resulting play cycle, called 365 Days/365 Plays, is a daily meditation on an artistic life. Some plays are very short, less than a page. Others last forever.

On Thursday, October 4, the Critical Mass Performance Group will perform seven short pieces from this amazing body of work in Building H of the Cultural Center, Directed by Nancy Keystone. Two FREE shows, at 6:30 and 8:30 PM, will allow San Pedro and other South Bay theatre lovers to experience this project in their own backyard.

About Critical Mass: Critical Mass Performance Group is committed to long-term collaborative development of new works, reinterpretations and adaptations of classic texts, and the use of alternative performance spaces. We believe in the transformative power of the theatre, in an essential theatre that is about thought, and energy, and the human mark in time and space. We seek to extend the boundaries of traditional theatre forms with a rigorous process that focuses on a visceral and poetic meeting of text, idea, image, music and physical expression. Through the provocative enactment of stories, we aim to explore the big questions of human existence which reverberate socially, politically, and spiritually, for us. The Company is committed to engaging in a dialogue with the community of Los Angeles through our work, education and accessibility.
