Angels Gate Cultural Center is pleased to announce our annual Open Studios program that will take place on May 20, 2012 from 12 - 5pm.

Angels Gate Cultural Center's Annual Open Studios Day is a celebration of everything that happens at Angels Gate Cultural Center. The Studio Artist, Artist in Classroom, Galleries and Community Class programs will present culminations of the work that happens onsite and in the community throughout the year. The Galleries will feature four new openings by a range of artists from the professional art world, local community, and K-12 schools. Please join us for art, food, and fun, where all ages will find something to celebrate.

Gallery Opening:

Main Gallery: Into the Wilderness: The Journey Within

"The clearest way into the Universe is through a forest wilderness." ’ÄìJohn Muir

During the latter part of the 19th century many people championed the notion that everybody, rich or poor, should have access to the wilderness as a means to restore themselves, both spiritually and physically. As we continue to define our relationship to the environment in proprietary terms, our relationships with the environment can still elicit wonder and provoke transcendent experiences as experienced and described by naturalists such as John Muir. Work from individual artists, curators, collectives, and performing arts groups will be featured.

Project Space, Community Gallery, and Community Room will also be featuring new work.

Studio Artist Open House:

Angels Gate Cultural Center is home year round to one of the largest Studio Artist Programs in the nation, with a diverse body of disciplines including ceramics, photography, printmaking, music, writing, filmmaking, and more. On Open Studios Day, 52 artists open their doors to the public to show their work over the past year in the setting in which it was originally conceived and created. An inspiring, once-a-year opportunity for seasoned artists and arts novices alike.

Community Class Demonstrations/Performances:

Angels Gate Cultural Center is home to a variety of movement classes that over the years have formed into prominent South Bay Performing Arts Organizations, such as the Robert Scott Dance Company, Lyons Academy of Irish Dancing, San Pedro City Ballet, and more. Throughout the day our Performing Arts Classes will provide demonstrations and performances of Dance, Martial Arts, Yoga and more.

Print Studio & Ceramics Demonstrations:

The Printmaking Studio draws regional fans as one of the most beautiful studios in Los Angeles. There will be Printmaking and Screenprinting demonstrations all day that are popular for all ages. Throughout the day our Ceramicist Community Class Teachers and Studio Artists will be offering free demonstrations in traditional and raku firings.

Childrens Art Workshops:

Students art will be shown in the gallery and classrooms to highlight their work throughout the year. Artists from our Artists in Classrooms and Arts Exploration Field Trip Programs will be leading workshops for all ages, where they will be able to create their own unique souvenir from Open Studios Day.

We hope you will join us on this special day.
