The exhibition title takes its cue from the 110 Pasadena/Harbor Freeway, whose entire sinewy length runs between San Pedro in the south (home of Angel's Gate Cultural Center) and Pasadena in the north (home of Art Center College of Design). 110% also speaks to the ambitious visions of both institutions, who aim to make meaningful contributions to Southern California's vibrant cultural laboratory.

This exhibition is purposeful in its partnership and scope. Angel's Gate features programs that are locally accessible and globally relevant. The exhibition is an example of the kind of unique partnerships being formed by this South Bay treasure. For its part, Art Center's Photo and Imaging Department is always working at breakneck speed to spearhead comprehensive and cutting edges of new photo practice.

110% operates just beyond the edge of the familiar. So not surprisingly, the exhibition playfully presents divergent techniques and attitudes. Together, the works on display convey the diversity of contemporary photographic practice. The featured artists skillfully utilize a range of tools, from large format to digital, mixed media to 19th century alchemy. Their photographic strategies take them from the studio to site-based tableaux, the distinct details of the human face to the powerful possibilities of fantasy and constructed realities.
