Angels Gate Cultural Center

presented by Angels Gate Cultural Center in partnership with Art Colony Galichnik, the Minister of Culture, Republic of Macedonia, and the San Pedro Art Association

10 visual and conceptual artists from Skopje, Macedonia had been working for two weeks at Angels Gate Cultural Center as part of an unusual international residency and exhibition in the L.A. Harbor area. Several major Macedonian artists were part of the group, including Jovan Sumkovski, Nove Frangovski and Blagoja Manevski. An outpouring of San Pedro community support from more than 80 individuals, local businesses and schools made the program possible.

The cross-generational, multi-disciplinary exhibition opened Oct. 2 with public discussions with the visiting artists and a choral performance by the Zhena Folk Chorus.

Program was directed by Jan Govaerts and Annemarie Rawlinson. Curator and Art Director of Art Colony Galichnik, Ana Frangovska. Program curation, Linda Pollack.

Angels Gate Cultural Center is great destination for families, with gallery shows, informative lectures and discussions, and special events creating an enriching environment for all ages to explore. Gallery open Tuesday through Sunday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Suggested donation for gallery admission: $5/adults; under 18 free. Angels Gate Cultural Center is located at 3601 S. Gaffey in San Pedro. Show ended November 28.

The Zhena Folk Chorus perpetuates the rich village tradition of Eastern European choral music and culture, to heights awareness of this beautiful and vigorous heritage and signifies the primary role of women in this important genre of world music.
