Ann Cleaves' cartoons currently appear in the Palisadian Post (Pacific Palisades, CA), Random Lengths (San Pedro, CA), and La Prensa San Diego. Her cartoons have
also appeared in other publications including The Washington Post (National Weekly
Edition), the magazine Change Agent, and several textbooks. She has won awards from
the CA Newspaper Publishers Association (CNPA) and from the National Newspaper
Association. Ann's cartoons have appeared in the Best Editorial Cartoons of the
Year since 1993 and she has been a member of the American Association of Editorial
Cartoonists since 1990.
Her cartoons have been included in a number of shows including a 9/11 show at the
Impolitic Gallery, Santa Monica, CA; the traveling show USA Patriot Art; a show in
honor of Thomas Nast: and the show Target California at Sacramento's California
History Museum.
Ann prepared for her career in cartooning at Brown University, RISD, Tougaloo,
Institute San Miguel Allende, the Boston Museum School and the University of Houston.
She began cartooning while a Peace Crops volunteer in upcountry Liberia. As well as
having been a Peace Corps teacher in Liberia and Fiji, Ann has taught school in Boston,
central Texas and Los Angeles. She and her husband Courtland live in San Pedro, CA .
